Rainbow Mini Swap

All the Colors Mini Swap

I think it’s clear by now that I love craft swaps! I also love rainbows! So when I saw the All the Colors mini quilt swap on Instagram… I jumped right in!!

My partner mentioned she loved Quiet Play Patterns and her mosaic had several flying geese included. I decided to combine the two! I used Quiet Play’s mini geometric sewing pattern for the center, and surrounded it with a circle of flying geese from the free pattern here enlarged to fit the center block.

Mini Details 2

For the quilting, I chose to use invisible thread in the top to ensure the quilting did not distract from the piecing. It was effective, but a huge pain to work with! It kept breaking, snagging, and bunching up on the back of the mini. But the effect is exactly what I hoped for! I chose a diagonal grid for the center and concentric circles for the flying geese. I finished it off with some rainbow binding using Katarina Roccella’s Avant Garde fabric! It felt like the perfect marriage of the rainbow foreground & low volume background.

Rainbow Pincushion

For the extras, I started with a rainbow pincushion! I drafted my own foundation paper piece pattern for this design. I added some buttons to pinch it in the center.

Ruffle Pouch

My partner had a daughter & son. Her daughter was beginning to sew and loved picking out fabrics for her projects. So, I decided to make her a sweet ruffle pouch (tutorial here) and fill it up with orphan charm squares for her to use!

Unicorn Pincushion

I also made a pin cushion for her, so I chose this sweet unicorn print for the center of an economy block! I finished it up with some cute pom pom trim around the edge!

Misc Extras

For her son, I made a triangle pencil pouch using the tutorial here. I filled it up with fun pencils, erasers, and supplies! I also made my partner a rainbow bound edge key fob!

Rainbow Swap Desat-1

Overall, I had an absolute blast creating this mini & these extras for my partner! I love that swaps push my creativity and allow me to make something special for another person! Crafting for others is one of my favorite things to do :)

Until Next Time!

Acreage Quilt Market Throw Pillow

Acreage Quilt Market Throw Pillow

Last year I came across a post on Instagram from Shannon of Eva Blake’s Makery. She was looking for people willing to make some samples of her new fabric line from Moda- Acreage! I thought that it sounded very fun, so I contacted her and she graciously let me make a throw pillow for market!

Acreage Quilted Throw Pillow

Shannon sent me 3 gorgeous prints from the line and gave me free reign to design a pillow. I mulled it over it for a long time trying to decide how to best do justice to this beautiful fabric! I decided on a star pillow, using the awesome bike print to accent the middle star! The middle of the stars was the perfect chance to showcase this pretty floral. I love that this design strikes a balance between vintage and modern- something that Acreage does perfectly!

Acreage Quilted Throw Pillow

I chose some simple straight line quilting to make sure the fabrics could shine!

For the back, I used another small star and all three prints to do some stripes. I used a hidden zipper closure to finish this pillow off.

I had so much fun making this pillow! And seeing pictures of it in the Acreage lookbook and at Quilt Market was so crazy! The quilting community is so great and I am glad I could be a small a part of it! :)

Until next time!
